History
On 19 November 1952 Australia issued a 3½ penny brown commemorative for the 2nd Pan-Pacific Scout Jamboree, associated with Five Dock (Sydney region). Domfil catalogues the stamp as 952.3 under «Pacific Jamboree», motif «Scout».
The design reuses the Scout-in-uniform portrait created by F. D. Manley for the 1948 Pan-Pacific Jamboree stamp (Scott AU 216), adapted to the new face value and colour for the second regional jamboree four years later. Production details match the earlier recess issue: Note Printing Branch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, sheets of 160 (two panes of 80 with gutter pairs), comb perforation 14 × 14¾, watermark small crown over C A. SOSOW records a print run of 98,772,000. Catalogue cross-references: Scott AU 249, Michel AU 222, Yvert AU 189, Stanley Gibbons AU 254.
Together with the 1948 2½d scarlet, this stamp documents Australia’s consecutive Pan-Pacific Scout Jamboree commemoratives of the late 1940s–early 1950s — pure Scouts-on-Stamps postage rather than a semi-postal or private label. Only the single 3½d value is catalogued as the series piece (sheet SCOUT-1952-AUS-01.1).
