History
Iran issued two commemoratives at Teheran on 5 August 1956 for its National Boy Scout Jamboree. Domfil catalogues the pair as 956.10/11, naming the designs camp-site and emblem.
The 2.50 rials blue-violet shows a Scout sounding a bugle in silhouette at the left, a line of ridge tents and a flagpole behind him (Domfil 956.10, Scott IR 1052, Michel IR 967). The 5 rials lilac places the Iranian Scout emblem beside a portrait of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi in Scout uniform (Domfil 956.11, Scott IR 1053, Michel IR 968). The Shah had already appeared in Scout dress on the 1950 issue for his thirty-first birthday — Iranian Scouting of this period is inseparable from the crown, and the two stamps put the movement and the monarch on facing halves of the same set.
The Parliament Printing Office produced both in photogravure, perforated 12½ × 11, in panes of 50, on paper watermarked with the Iranian coat of arms. Further references are Yvert IR 865–866 and Stanley Gibbons IR 1089–1090. Both values are catalogued here in rising face-value order.
