History
The Netherlands Antilles issued three semi-postals at Curaçao on 22 February 1957 — Baden-Powell's birthday — for the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting and the centenary of his birth. Domfil catalogues the set as 957.1/3, recording all three designs as «Lord Baden-Powell».
The three values share one design in different colours: a bust of Baden-Powell in Scout hat inside a laurel wreath, NED. ANTILLEN above and BADEN POWELL below, the dates 1907 and 1957 flanking the wreath and a fleur-de-lis in each corner. Pijke Koch drew it after David Jagger's portrait of the Chief Scout. The values are 6 + 1½ cents yellow-ochre (Domfil 957.1, Scott AN B28), 7½ + 2½ cents blue-green (957.2, Scott AN B29) and 15 + 5 cents red (957.3, Scott AN B30).
Joh. Enschedé en Zonen printed them in photogravure, perforated 13¾ × 13. SOSOW records 188,000 of each value, and the stamps stayed valid for postage until 31 December 1958. Further references are Michel AN 53–55, Yvert AN 246–248 and Stanley Gibbons AN 355–357. The three values are catalogued here in rising face-value order.
