History

Libya issued two stamps on 24 July 1964 for Scouts' Day, marking the opening of the new Boy Scout Headquarters in Tripoli and the installation of Crown Prince Hassan al-Rida el Senussi as Chief Scout. The 10 m shows the national flag and a Scout flag beside a three-finger salute; the 20 m shows the Scout fleur-de-lis emblem with the same salute; both carry the word PROMISE. The same designs also exist imperforate. An imperforate souvenir sheet gathers both values and is inscribed PRICE: 50 MILLS.

Print runs are given as 200,000 of each stamp and 50,000 souvenir sheets. Designer Ismail Shammut; Helio Courvoisier; photogravure on granite paper; perforated 12 × 11½.
