History

Bhutan issued a commemorative set at Phuntsholing on 28 September 1967 honouring the Girl Guides of Bhutan. Harrison & Sons printed the diamond-shaped stamps by photogravure; the perforated values are gauged about 13½.

Three designs alternate across six face values. The 5 ch and 1.50 Nu show a Girl Guide painting a traditional pattern on a board — silver border on the chetrum value and gold on the ngultrum. The 10 ch and 2.50 Nu show a Girl Guide playing a long-necked stringed instrument against Himalayan peaks. The 15 ch and 5 Nu show a Girl Guide picking fruit from a tree. Each stamp is inscribed BHUTAN in English and Dzongkha and carries a Girl Guide trefoil. Imperforate singles of all six values exist.

A souvenir sheet of 7.50 Nu combines the 2.50 Nu music and 5 Nu picking-fruit designs with flanking trefoil panels lettered Bhutan in English and Dzongkha; it exists perforated and imperforate. Printed quantities for the perforated stamps run from 100,000 for each of the three chetrum values down to 50,000 for the 1.50 Nu, 30,000 for the 2.50 Nu and 20,000 for the 5 Nu, with 15,000 sheets. The postal status of the issue is disputed.
