History

India issued a 20 paise commemorative on 27 December 1970 at Bombay and other cities for the diamond jubilee of the Girl Guide Movement — the sixtieth anniversary of world Guiding — and for the 6th All-Indian Jamboree. The vertical plum design shows a Girl Guide in profile giving the three-finger salute. The World Association trefoil sits at the upper right and the Bharat Scouts and Guides emblem, a fleur-de-lis charged with the Ashoka Chakra, at the lower right. English GIRL GUIDE MOVEMENT DIAMOND JUBILEE runs down the right; Hindi titles for the Guide Movement and the diamond jubilee, with the year 1970, occupy the upper and left margins. The face value 20 sits at lower left above भारत / INDIA. The India Security Press designed and printed the stamp by photogravure, 39.1 × 29 mm, comb perforated 13, in panes of thirty-five, on unwatermarked paper. Three million copies were produced.
