History
Saint Christopher, Nevis and Anguilla issued six commemoratives at Basseterre on 9 October 1978 for the golden jubilee of Scouting in St. Kitts and Nevis, 1928–1978. Each stamp is lettered St Christopher Nevis Anguilla, 1928, 1978 and THE GOLDEN JUBILEE OF SCOUTING IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS, with a purple fleur-de-lis in a rope circle at the foot of a rope-framed picture.
The 5 cents, captioned Investiture, shows a Scout shaking hands with a leader on the coast. The 10 cents, captioned Map reading, shows two Scouts with a map, one pointing toward the hills. The 25 cents, captioned Pitching tent, shows Scouts raising an orange tent. The 40 cents, captioned Cooking, shows two Scouts at a frying pan over a fire, a blue tent behind. The 50 cents, captioned First Aid, shows one Scout with an arm in a sling and another attending him. The 55 cents shows the Reverend W. A. Beckett in clerical collar, lettered founder of scouting in St. Kitts, with two Scouts saluting.
Leslie Curtis designed the set. Rosenbaum Bros. of Vienna lithographed it, comb perforated 14, in panes of 50 as two blocks of 25 with a gutter, on paper watermarked Crown over Block CA diagonal.
