The issuing authority
The German Democratic Republic issued its own stamps from 1949 through Deutsche Post of the GDR. After German reunification in 1990 the authority passed to Deutsche Post of the Federal Republic.
Scouting
Scouting was banned in the German Democratic Republic; youth work ran through the Free German Youth. After 1990 German Scouting was reorganised in the unified federal associations of the Ring deutscher Pfadfinder*innenverbände.
