Series history

In 1914 the Copenhagen charity Friskolebørns Asylerne (homes / day-care centres for children of free-school families) sold a set of five perforated poster stamps (mærkater) to raise funds. They carried Danish registration number 730, sold for 10 øre each, and are reported in a printing of about 20,000 of each design.

Only one of the five designs shows Scouts camping by a fire; the other four show everyday school and zoo scenes and have no scouting content. Because this site is a scouting catalogue, only the Scout design is a numbered catalog piece (1914.DNK.01-01). The four non-scout companions appear below as optional context from the same charity issue, not as catalog entries.

Catalogues of Danish poster stamps refer to the full set as Friskolebørns Asylerne, Anno 1914 (Col. DK 1914-44/1–5). The Scout design has also been listed under the English series title “Free School Home.”
