Series history

An advertising label for the KFUK-Spejdernes Landsudstilling — the national exhibition of the KFUK Guides — held at the Forum in Copenhagen on 24, 25 and 26 May 1938.

KFUK is Kristelig Forening for Unge Kvinder, the Danish YWCA, and its Guide branch is the association known today as De Grønne Pigespejdere, the Green Girl Guides. The same organisation appears in this catalogue sixteen years earlier, on the K.F.U.K.s Spejdere label of 1922.

The exhibition brought together displays from Guide towns across Denmark, each showing what was particular to it, and its most remembered feature was a wall hung with eight thousand dolls dressed in Guide uniform. It was also a fundraiser with a purpose: the takings bought the property that became Spejderbakken, the association's leader-training centre.

The label shows a Guide on a plinth with her arms flung wide beneath a triangular tent carrying the KFUK trefoil, Danish flags massed at her feet, the whole in yellow, green and red. Andersen & Bruun printed it; the copy held is used and cancelled, so it travelled on mail as intended. It carries no face value and no catalogue number — a cinderella, like the run of Danish Scout and Guide labels already in this catalogue from 1913 onwards.
