Notes

Young revolutionaries marching with flags. 25th anniversary of the September 1923 uprising. Domfil 948.33 «September Youth Movement». Print run 200,000. Coloured (chamois) paper. Designers Valkov / Penchev / Tomov.

Series history

On 6 September 1948 Bulgaria issued a commemorative stamp for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 1923 uprising. The 60 lev dark brown design, titled in Colnect «Young Revolutionaries», shows a column of young people marching with flags; Domfil catalogues it as 948.33 under the series heading for the September revolution anniversary, motif line «September Youth Movement» / Movimiento juvenil Septiembre.

Production details match the Colnect record: photogravure, line perforation 10¾, designers Pavel Valkov, Stefan Penchev and Veselin Tomov, print run 200,000, coloured (chamois) paper. Catalogue cross-references: Scott BG 623, Michel BG 663, Yvert BG 587, Stanley Gibbons BG 725.

For Scouts-on-Stamps collectors the interest is Domfil’s youth-movement listing rather than a World Jamboree design: the stamp is kept as the official Domfil 948.33 piece for Bulgarian youth / «September» youth organisations of the late 1940s People’s Republic period. Only this single 60 lev value is catalogued here as the series piece (sheet SCOUT-1948-BUL-01.1).
