Series history
The United States issued a 4 cent commemorative at Washington, D.C. on 8 February 1960 for the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting in the United States. Domfil catalogues it as 960.7 under «50 Aniversario del escultismo americano», motif «Explorador / Scout».
Norman Rockwell designed the stamp: a Scout in garrison cap and neckerchief giving the three-finger salute, engraved in ochre, with BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA in red across the top, 1910 · 1960 down the left and 4¢ U.S. POSTAGE down the right. G. L. Huber engraved the lettering and C. A. Brooks the vignette. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produced it by recess engraving in panes of 50, perforation 11. SOSOW records a print of 120,000,000.
