Notes
Reproduction of Cornelia Pepene's painting Aniversare: a naive gathering of Pioneers in white shirts and red neckerchiefs around a figure in black, with a Romanian flag and banners naming Ceaușescu and the P.C.R. Lettered ORGANIZAȚIA PIONIERILOR DIN ROMÂNIA and 25 DE ANI; credit PEPENE CORNELIA - «ANIVERSARE»; POȘTA ROMÂNĂ 55 B; year 1974 in the margin.
Series history
Romania issued a 55 bani commemorative on 25 April 1974 for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Pioneer organisation, lettered ORGANIZAȚIA PIONIERILOR DIN ROMÂNIA and 25 DE ANI. The stamp reproduces Cornelia Pepene's painting Aniversare; Aurel Popescu designed the issue. Fabrica de Timbre in Bucharest printed it by photogravure, comb perforated 13½, 55 × 42 mm, without watermark, in a run of 1,000,000.
The painting, in a naive style, shows a gathering of Pioneers in white shirts and red neckerchiefs around a figure in black, with a Romanian flag. Banners in the picture name Nicolae Ceaușescu and the P.C.R. The credit PEPENE CORNELIA - «ANIVERSARE» sits below the picture.
