History
On 1 January 1940 Hungary issued a three-value semi-postal set for the Horthy National Aviation Fund (Horthy Aerial Foundation / aviation charity). Only one design is scouting: the 6 + 6 fillér green showing a boy Scout with a kite (Scott B110 / Michel 623 / Domfil 940.1). The other two values of the set (Scott B111–B112) have non-scout aviation subjects and are shown here only as optional related images.
The Scout stamp was designed by Sándor Légrády (who also signed the 1933 World Jamboree and 1939 Girl Scout Jamboree issues), printed in photogravure, comb 12½ × 12, watermark St. Stephen’s Cross on pyramid. SOSOW records a print run of 343,638 for the Scout value. Face is postage plus equal surcharge for the aviation fund — a classic semi-postal / charity-airmail treatment rather than a pure jamboree commemorative.
For Scouts-on-Stamps collectors the interest is the single Scout-and-kite design within a national aviation charity set: youth, readiness and the kite motif, under the Horthy-era aviation fund banner. Only the basic perforated Scout stamp is catalogued as the official piece of this series.
ATA 1964 places the Scout-with-kite design in the Horthy National Aviation Fund set (complete set B110–B112), the other values showing planes and allegorical figures, designed by S. Légrády.
