History
On 3 August 1951 Austria issued a 1 schilling green commemorative for the 7th World Scout Jamboree, held in the Salzkammergut region around Bad Ischl and St. Wolfgang. Domfil catalogues the stamp as 951.8 under «7th World Jamboree in Bad Ischl», motif «Emblem».
The design shows the Austrian Scout badge over a globe — a clear World Jamboree emblem rather than a portrait or camp scene. Designer Ernst Schrom; engraver Maria Olinowetz; printed at the State Printing Works by a combination of engraving, lithography and typography, panes of 50, comb perforation 14½ × 13¾, size about 30 × 38 mm. SOSOW records a print run of 1,000,000 and notes the existence of black proof copies. Catalogue cross-references: Scott AT 576, Michel AT 966, Yvert AT 800, Stanley Gibbons AT 1231 (Domfil also cites SG 1261).
This is a pure Scouts-on-Stamps World Jamboree commemorative: Austria’s first major postwar Scout stamp for an international gathering on Austrian soil. Black proofs from the production process are shown only as optional related images, not as separate catalog pieces.
