History

Czechoslovakia issued this 30 haléřů commemorative on 8 June 1957 for the exhibition of young philatelists at Pardubice. Domfil catalogues it as 957.31 «Explorador y estandarte / Scout and banner».

The design is a stamp within a stamp: a Pioneer raises a banner that is itself a 30 haléřů stamp while sounding a bugle, with a magnifying glass and a perforation gauge at his feet. ČESKOSLOVENSKO runs across the head, VÝSTAVA MLADÝCH FILATELISTŮ - PARDUBICE 1957 down the two sides, and SBÍREK MLADÝCH — young collectors — along the foot. Mario Stretti drew it and Jiří Antonín Švengsbír engraved it, combining photogravure with recess, in green and salmon, 33 × 52 mm, comb perforation 14, in a run of 3,127,000.

The bugler in neckerchief is the Pioneer of the ČSM, the organisation that had absorbed the independent Junák Scout association in 1950. Domfil indexes the stamp by that figure, as it does the Eastern-bloc youth issues of these years generally.

A companion value of the same exhibition is catalogued by Domfil at 957.32, and a miniature sheet exists, priced separately. Further references are Scott CS 811, Michel CS 1028, Yvert CS 915, Stanley Gibbons CS 987, AFA CS 875 and, in the Czech specialised catalogue, POF 948.
