History

Ghana overprinted its 1972 diamond stamps for the 65th anniversary of the founding of the international Boy Scout movement with a black line reading 1st WORLD SCOUTING CONFERENCE IN AFRICA. Five values were issued on 24 July 1973. The 5 p shows two Scouts lying on the grass before a large fleur-de-lis with a Scout badge; the 15 p a Scout standing before a tent; the 30 p Sea Scouts in a canoe; the 50 p a group of Scouts in uniform; and the 1 ₵ four Scouts seated as if studying. Each stamp keeps the anniversary inscription along the upper edges. House of Questa printed the designs by offset lithography, comb perforated 14, about 33 × 33 mm, in panes of 30.

A souvenir sheet of 110 × 110 mm, still dated 1972 in the margin, carries the same overprint on a 40 p canoe stamp and a 60 p studying stamp (combined 100 p), with fleur-de-lis ornaments in the other diamonds. Sources name no designer for the overprint.
