History
On 2 April 1977 Nigeria issued four commemoratives for the First All Africa Scout Jamboree. The stamps are inscribed 1977. Other issues for the same camp name Shere Hills, Jos, and date the gathering 1976. Accounts differ on the year of the camp itself.
Austin Ogo Onwudimegwu designed the 5 kobo, 25 kobo and 30 kobo. Nojim Lasisi designed the 18 kobo. The Nigerian Security Printing and Minting works printed the set by offset lithography, comb perforated 14, in panes of 50. The 5 kobo is recorded at 2,000,000; the other three values at 750,000 each.
The 5 kobo, upright at 25 × 42 mm, shows a Scout in a campaign hat and a Cub in green saluting each other before tents, with the triangular jamboree badge at upper right. The 18 kobo, landscape at 42 × 25 mm, is inscribed COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT and shows three Scouts with a wheelbarrow and shovels beside the same badge. The 25 kobo shows two Scouts working the soil before maize, under a cyan sky. The 30 kobo pairs the triangular badge — World Scout fleur-de-lis, a map of Africa and a handshake — with a map of the continent whose arrows converge on West Africa.
