Series history

In mid-August 1936 Romania issued a three-value semi-postal set for the National Boy Scout Jamboree held at Brașov (German Kronstadt) in Transylvania. SOSOW dates the issue 19 August 1936; Domfil and Colnect list 20 August. Each stamp sold at double face — postage plus an equal surtax for Scouting: 1 + 1, 3 + 3 and 6 + 6 lei.

Unlike the 1931–34 pictorial jamboree sets (camp craft, royal portraits, Mamaia overprints), the Brașov issue uses a single design across all values: the Scouting insignia / emblem (Domfil «Emblem»), printed in dark blue (1 + 1 l), brown-black (3 + 3 l) and carmine (6 + 6 l). The set is catalogued Scott B63–B65, Michel 516–518, Domfil 936.9–936.11.

Designers were D. Știubei and Ștefan Constantinescu (the latter had already signed the 1932 Sibiu jamboree designs). Production was at the Government Printing Works by photogravure, perforation 13½, watermark crowns and monograms. SOSOW records a print run of 60,000 of each value — lower than the 150,000 of the 1932 set and closer to the 50,000 of the 1934 Mamaia overprints.

The Brașov jamboree belongs to the last years of free-standing Romanian Scout postage before the state youth reorganisation of 1937. Together with the 1931 Bucharest exhibition, the 1932 Sibiu jamboree, the 1934 Mamaia overprints and the 1935 Carol II anniversary set, it closes the classic semi-postal Scout sequence of the Carol II decade.

ATA 1964 places this set at the Romanian National Boy Scout Jamboree in Brașov: four Scout badges surround the circular 1 leu design; the 3 lei centres the royal crown on a large Scout badge among many smaller ones; the 6 lei shows an eagle shield grasping two Scout badges. Fake Timisoara and Bucurest cancellations are again recorded.
