Notes

Torchlight procession of Scouts at night. Domfil 957.8 «Junto al fuego / At the fire-side». Valid for postage until 31 July 1961.

Series history

Liechtenstein issued two commemoratives at Vaduz on 10 September 1957 for the fiftieth anniversary of world Scouting and the centenary of Baden-Powell's birth. Domfil catalogues them as 957.8/9.

The 10 rappen violet shows a torchlight procession of Scouts at night, and the 20 rappen brown a portrait of Baden-Powell in Scout hat. Canon Anton Frommelt designed both — the same hand behind the 1953 Vaduz conference set — and Hélio Courvoisier printed them in photogravure, perforated 12. They were sold in panes of twelve in which the two designs alternate se-tenant among decorative margins, which is why the complete pane is catalogued here as a piece of its own and the se-tenant pair is shown below as an optional item.

SOSOW records 424,290 of each value and gives 31 July 1961 as the last day of postal validity. Domfil prices the se-tenant combination and the miniature sheet as separate lines under the same two numbers. Further references are Michel LI 360–361, Yvert LI 322–323, Stanley Gibbons LI 358–359 and Unificato 322/323.
