Series history
Muscat marked the IX World Scout Jamboree on 1 August 1957 by overprinting the British Jubilee Jamboree issue, exactly as Bahrain did the same day. The sultanate was then styled Muscat and Oman — it took the name Sultanate of Oman only in 1970 — and its posts were run as a Persian Gulf Agency of Great Britain, so British stamps were surcharged in naye paise for local use. Domfil catalogues the three under Mascate as 957.12/14.
The base stamps are the Great Britain set for the jamboree at Sutton Coldfield: the 2½d with the Scout badge and coiled rope, the 4d with a medallion and swallows, and the 1s 3d with a globe and the Scout fleur-de-lis. Each received MUSCAT and a new value in black — 15 np, 25 np and 75 np respectively.
SOSOW records 155,041, 154,705 and 154,080 copies, printings almost identical to Bahrain's of the same day. Catalogue references are Scott OM 76–78, Michel OM 77–79, Yvert OM 58–60 and Stanley Gibbons OM 76–78. All three are in the collection.
