Notes
A Scout sounding the bugle at dawn over a valley of tents, Chinese inscriptions down both sides. Engraved by Pao Liang-yu, panes of 100, issued ungummed. Print run 500,000 (SOSOW).
Series history
Taiwan issued three commemoratives on 8 July 1959 for the participation of the Boy Scouts of China in the X World Scout Jamboree, held that year at Mount Makiling in the Philippines — the first world jamboree in Asia.
One design serves all three values: a Scout in campaign hat sounding the bugle in the foreground while a valley of tents stretches away behind him, Chinese inscriptions running down both sides. Wen Hsueh-ju drew it and Pao Liang-yu engraved it for the China Engraving & Printing Works, in panes of 100, perforated 12. The values are 40 cents pink-carmine, 50 cents blue and 5 dollars green, with printings of 1,500,000, 1,000,000 and 500,000.
As with Taiwan's centenary issue two years earlier, the stamps were put on sale ungummed, and specimen overprints exist. The three values with the face struck through by two black bars are shown below.
