Scout portrait with sports vignettes; perforated
Series history
Liberia issued a Boy Scouts set at Monrovia on 4 December 1961. E. A. Wright Bank Note Company of Philadelphia printed the issue by lithography on enamel-coated paper; the perforated stamps are gauged about 11½.
The 5 c shows a Scout portrait framed by the motto Service / Education / Achievement and sports vignettes. The 10 c pairs the Liberian Scout fleur-de-lis (letters RL) with two Scouts at a camp-fire under the slogan «Scouts Today / Leaders Tomorrow». The 25 c airmail shows a Scout before a fleur-de-lis with the legend «Duty to God and Country». Imperforate singles of these three values exist.
A souvenir sheet carries a 35 c airmail design of a Scout amid sports figures, headed «Strength in the Arm of Liberty» with flanking RL fleur-de-lis emblems; it exists perforated and imperforate.
