Series history

North Korea issued a three-value diamond set on 1 June 1961 for the fifteenth anniversary of the Korean Children's Union (소년단). The stamps commemorate that youth organisation rather than a Scout association affiliated with WOSM: each carries the Union flame emblem and a Korean heading for the founding anniversary.

Choe Tong-su (최동수) designed the set in offset lithography, line perforation 11, on ungummed paper. The 5 ch shows a boy in a striped swim cap with a lifebuoy among other swimmers, flags and boats at sea. The first 10 ch shows a child in white uniform and red neckerchief writing in a notebook before memorial stelae in wooded ground. The second 10 ch shows a trumpeter with a red neckerchief, other children and rabbits on a grassy field before a building, with the year 1961 at the foot.
