Notes

Diamond stamp: a youth in a reddish fur-trimmed deel holds two lambs against a dark green octagonal field; MONGOLIA, МОНГОЛ ШУУДАН, traditional Mongolian script and the dates 1925–1965 surround the vignette; face value 5 мөнгө.

Series history

Mongolia issued five diamond-shaped commemoratives on 10 October 1965 for the fortieth anniversary of the national youth organisation, with the span 1925–1965 lettered on every value. Each stamp is multicoloured, framed with traditional endless-knot ornament, and inscribed MONGOLIA in Latin, МОНГОЛ ШУУДАН in Cyrillic, and a line of traditional Mongolian script. Sources give perforation 11 and no watermark; the designer and printer are not established.

The 5 möngö shows a youth in a fur-trimmed deel holding two lambs. The 10 möngö shows a boy and a girl in light-blue shirts and red neckerchiefs beating drums. The 20 möngö shows four children around a campfire at night with a conical tent behind them. The 30 möngö shows two wrestlers in traditional bökh costume. The 50 möngö carries a red-and-gold emblem with the Soyombo and the motto ХЭЗЭЭД БЭЛЭН («Always Ready»).

Face values run 5, 10, 20, 30 and 50 möngö.
