Notes
Airmail: Cub Scout and Boy Scout giving the Scout sign; inscribed POSTE AERIENNE.
Series history
Burundi issued ten diamond-shaped stamps on 9 August 1967 for the 60th anniversary of Scouting and the 12th World Scout Jamboree held in the United States. Heraclio Fournier designed and printed the set by photogravure, line perforated 13½, in panes of twenty; the same designs were also released imperforate. The five lower values (50 c to 4 f) are ordinary commemoratives; the five higher values (10 f to 26 f) are inscribed POSTE AERIENNE.
Quantities printed were 100,000 of each of the 50 c, 1 f, 1.50 f and 2 f; 50,000 of the 4 f, 10 f, 14 f and 17 f; 30,000 of the 24 f; and 25,000 of the 26 f.
The designs show two Scouts hiking on rocky ground (50 c and 10 f); two Scouts cooking over a camp fire before a tent (1 f and 14 f); a portrait of Baden-Powell in campaign hat against tropical foliage (1.50 f and 17 f); a Boy Scout and a Cub Scout giving the Scout sign beside water and palms (2 f and 24 f); and two Scouts, one bandaging the other's arm (4 f and 26 f). Each stamp carries a red fleur-de-lis at the lower point.
A diamond souvenir sheet (about 100 × 100 mm), also by Heraclio Fournier in photogravure and issued perforated and imperforate, joins the 24 f Scout-sign and 26 f first-aid airmail designs with two labels: a portrait of Baden-Powell dated 22 February 1857–8 January 1941, and Scouts cooking at a camp fire, with French inscriptions for the sixtieth anniversary of Scouting and the twentieth anniversary of Scouting in Burundi. The sheet appeared in January 1968; some sources also record 19 January, and the postal status of the sheet is not settled.
