Series history

Somalia issued four commemorative stamps at Mogadishu on 15 August 1967 for the 12th World Scout Jamboree, held in Idaho, United States, and for the Boy Scouts of Somalia. Murad A. M. Kasail designed the set. De La Rue & Co. Ltd. printed it by photogravure. The 0.35, 0.50 and 1 Sh values are perforated 13¾ × 12¾; the 1.80 Sh is perforated 13¼ × 12¾. Sheets were issued in panes of 50. Each value was printed in a quantity of 80,000.

The 0.35 Sh shows a Scout in a green uniform, beret and yellow neckerchief giving the three-finger salute beside a circular Scout emblem with radiating yellow rays. The 0.50 Sh shows two Scouts holding the light-blue Somali flag with its white star and a green Scout flag against an orange sunburst with a blue fleur-de-lis disc. The 1 Sh shows a Scout kneeling at a campsite with a tripod cooking pot over a fire and an open tent among sparse trees. The 1.80 Sh carries the 12th World Jamboree emblem — a globe with a yellow fleur-de-lis above mountain silhouettes labelled IDAHO, inscribed 1st–9th AUGUST 1967 — on a diamond field of green and purple. All four stamps are inscribed SOMALIA; the three lower values also read BOY SCOUTS. Each design credits DE LA RUE in the lower margin.
