Series history

Costa Rica issued five airmail commemoratives at San José on 15 March 1968 for the golden jubilee of the Scout Movement in the country (1916–1966). T. G. Todorov designed the set; Helio Courvoisier printed it by combined offset lithography and recess engraving in panes of one hundred. The three lower values are upright formats perforated 13 × 13½; the two higher values are horizontal, perforated 13½ × 13. Quantities were 1,500,000 of the 0.15 ₡, 250,000 of the 0.25 ₡, 2,000,000 of the 0.35 ₡, 1,000,000 of the 0.50 ₡ and 100,000 of the 0.65 ₡. The designs show a Scout directing traffic, Scouts at a campfire under a palm, the Scout emblem with national and Scout flags, Scouts at an encampment, and a historical photograph of an early Costa Rican Scout troop.
