Series history
Barbados issued four commemoratives and a souvenir sheet at Bridgetown on 16 December 1969 for the independence of the Barbados Boy Scouts Association. Each stamp is inscribed INDEPENDENCE of the BARBADOS BOY SCOUTS ASSOCIATION 1969, with a small profile of Queen Elizabeth II at upper right and the face value in a knotted-rope roundel. John Cooter designed the set. Joh. Enschedé lithographed it in panes of 25, comb perforated 13½ × 13¾. The 5 cent shows the Association’s gold fleur-de-lis, with a trident, on a blue disc bound by a reef knot. The 25 cent shows Sea Scouts in white caps rowing a blue longboat, with a two-masted vessel and the waterfront behind, and is also inscribed 50th ANNIVERSARY BARBADOS SEA SCOUTS. The 35 cent, labelled CAMP FIRE SCENE, shows Scouts around a fire and a tent at night. The 50 cent shows five Scouts of different sections in front of the National Scout Headquarters and Training Centre at Hazelwood, with the Barbados flag. The souvenir sheet, 154 × 115 mm, gathers the four values in a rope frame with proficiency badges, the Association emblem and the national flag; the corners read 19 and 69. Printings were 769,879 of the 5 cent, 263,556 of the 25 cent, 101,313 of the 35 cent and 75,023 of the 50 cent.
