Series history

Poland issued three 60 groszy commemoratives at Warsaw on 19 July 1969 for the fifth Alert of the Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego, under the slogan Harcerstwo ludziom 25-lecia. Each stamp is inscribed POLSKA 60 gr and ALERT ZHP and carries the historic Polish Scout cross with the motto CZUWAJ. Tadeusz Michaluk designed the set; Eugeniusz Tirdiszek engraved it. PAMIĘĆ (Memory) shows the cross above a bowl with a red flame; OBRONA (Defence) a red eagle above the cross; PRACA (Work) the cross above a green map of Poland. The State Security Printing Works (PWPW) printed the stamps by photogravure, steel engraving and typography, 22 × 51 mm, harrow perforated 11¼ × 11¾, in panes of 70 (14 × 5). Printings were 6,139,000, 8,148,000 and 6,286,000. The stamps remained valid until 31 December 1994.
