Notes
Gold-foil embossed printing of the same camp and portrait, die-cut 8; AIR MAIL, 2 Rls, RAS AL KHAIMA.
Series history
Ras al-Khaimah issued a 2 riyal airmail of Lord Baden-Powell as the Scout-relevant value of a Famous Men set of eight. Listings date the lithographed stamp 5 February 1969; the gold-foil printing of the same design is also given as 15 February or 13 August. Designer and printer are not established. Postal standing of the issue is not settled.
The lithographed stamp, offset in colour, 60 × 40 mm, comb perforated 12, shows a Scout camp of white tents among trees beside a framed portrait of Baden-Powell in campaign hat, inscribed BADEN POWELL, AIR MAIL, 2 Rls and RAS AL KHAIMA. Eight thousand of that printing are recorded, in panes of twenty. An imperforate of the same design exists.
A gold-foil embossed printing of the same portrait and camp, die-cut, was issued with an imperforate companion. A souvenir sheet, 128 × 100 mm, places the gold-foil stamp on a white ground lettered LORD BADEN-POWELL 1857–1941 and THE FOUNDER OF SCOUTING.
