Series history

Dominica issued four commemoratives and a souvenir sheet at Roseau on 18 October 1971 for the 13th World Scout Jamboree at Asagiri Heights, Japan. Each stamp is a vertical portrait against a torii, snow-capped Mount Fuji and a row of white tents, inscribed 13th INTERNATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE and JAPAN — AUGUST 1971, with the jamboree shield (13th WORLD JAMBOREE 1971 NIPPON) and a gold fleur-de-lis. The 20 cents shows a Scout in a light-blue shirt and beret. The 24 cents shows a Scout in a green shirt with a Union Jack on the breast and in the upper corner. The 30 cents shows a Scout in khaki and a campaign hat, with the Japanese flag. The 1 dollar shows a Scout in a yellow shirt and beret, with the flag of the Dominican Republic and the motto SIEMPRE LISTO on the fleur-de-lis. Format International Security Printers printed the issue in lithography, comb perforated 11, in panes of 50. The souvenir sheet pairs the 30 cents and 1 dollar in a border of fleur-de-lis and jamboree roundels. Sources give no designer.
