Notes
Three Scouts in a wooden pirogue among reeds, one poling from the stern, another with a small green flag. Disc at upper left with the map of Africa and the World Scout emblem. Inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU DAHOMEY, SCOUTISME, POSTE AERIENNE, ADDIS-ABEBA - NAIROBI - 1973, 15F and M. MONVOISIN.
Series history
Dahomey issued three airmail stamps and a souvenir sheet at Cotonou on 2 July 1973, inscribed SCOUTISME, POSTE AERIENNE and ADDIS-ABEBA - NAIROBI - 1973. Michel Monvoisin designed and engraved the set; the stamps are signed MONVOISIN. The Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste, Paris, printed it in recess, comb perforated 13. Horizontal values measure about 52 × 32 mm, the 20 f about 32 × 52 mm. The issue was withdrawn on 30 April 1975.
The 15 f shows three Scouts in a pirogue among reeds, one poling. The 20 f is a blue portrait of Baden-Powell in a Scout hat, lettered 1857 - BADEN POWELL - 1941. The 40 f shows Scouts building a log footbridge over a stream. Each design carries a disc with the map of Africa and the World Scout emblem.
The souvenir sheet (about 180 × 100 mm) places the three airmails in a row on a card inscribed CONFERENCE MONDIALE DU SCOUTISME, with fleur-de-lis ornaments in the side margins and the imprint Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste — France. Combined face value 75 f. Nairobi hosted the 24th World Scout Conference in July 1973.
