Yellow souvenir sheet with a large tent silhouette and World Scout emblem; the 100 f canoe and 200 f cooking airmails, simulated perforated. Inscribed 1ère CONFERENCE MONDIALE BOY SCOUTS EN AFRIQUE, REPUBLIQUE TOGOLAISE and SHAMIR.

Series history

Togo issued six commemorative stamps and a souvenir sheet at Lomé on 30 June 1973, inscribed 1ère CONFERENCE MONDIALE BOY SCOUTS EN AFRIQUE. Gabriel Shamir and Maxim Shamir designed the set; the stamps are signed SHAMIR. The Israel Government Printers lithographed it, comb perforated 14, in panes of 30. The 10, 20, 30 and 40 f are ordinary postage (POSTES); the 100 f and 200 f are airmail (POSTE AERIENNE). Vertical values measure about 30 × 52 mm, horizontal values about 52 × 30 mm.

The 10 f and 40 f show Scouts pitching a tent under a palm. The 20 f and 200 f show three Scouts cooking over a camp-fire. The 30 f shows a Scout climbing a rope from a palm. The 100 f shows two Scouts canoeing. The souvenir sheet (about 107 × 97 mm) places the two airmails on a yellow ground with a tent silhouette and the World Scout emblem, with simulated perforations. Nairobi hosted the 24th World Scout Conference in July 1973. An imperforate deluxe sheet of each of the six stamp designs is also known.
