Series history
Guyana issued four commemorative stamps and a souvenir sheet in Georgetown on 1 August 1974 for the Golden Jubilee of the Girl Guides of Guyana. Marjorie Broodhagen designed the set, adapted by J. E. Cooter; House of Questa printed it by offset lithography, comb perforated 14½, watermarked with a multiple lotus blossom, in panes of 50 as two blocks of 25 with gutter pairs. The stamps measure about 44 × 28.5 mm; the sheet about 170 × 137 mm.
The 8 cents (yellow) and 50 cents (blue) show two Girl Guides and a Brownie holding a banner lettered 1924 – 1974 GOLDEN JUBILEE, inscribed GUYANA, SOUTH AMERICA and GUYANA GIRL GUIDES. The 25 cents and 40 cents show Guides at camp — tents, a cooking fire and the Guyanese flag — lettered GUYANA GIRL GUIDES 1924-1974.
The souvenir sheet places the four stamps in a block on a red-bordered card. Girl Guides semaphore from the letters GUYANA; a gold trefoil is lettered G G; two proficiency badges are titled HOMEMAKER and FARMER; the margins read GIRL GUIDES JUBILEE and 1924 — 1974. Combined face value 123 cents.
