Notes

Vertical. A white zebu-head outline: zebus behind a fence in the forehead, two Scouts building a wooden frame in the face; a Scout with a pole at left. Africa-and-fleur-de-lis disc at upper right. Inscribed SCOUTISME, POSTES, REPOBLIKA MALAGASY and 4 Fmg. Signed H. MONVOISIN.

Series history

Madagascar issued four stamps at Tananarive on 14 February 1974, inscribed SCOUTISME and REPOBLIKA MALAGASY. Michel Monvoisin designed and engraved the set; the postage values are signed H. MONVOISIN and the airmails M. MONVOISIN. The Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste, Paris, printed it in recess, comb perforated 13, in panes of 25. The 4 and 15 francs malgaches are vertical, about 26 × 40 mm, and inscribed POSTES. The 100 and 300 francs malgaches are horizontal airmails, about 40 × 26 mm, inscribed POSTE AERIENNE. Each design carries a disc with a map of Africa and the Scout fleur-de-lis.

The 4 Fmg places camp work inside a zebu-head outline. The 15 Fmg shows Scouts sawing, carrying an axe and thatching a hut. The 100 Fmg is a first-aid tent with a red cross. The 300 Fmg is a pirogue with a large stylised fish.
