Notes

Airmail. Blue frame. Three Scouts sit around a camp-fire before a red globe of Africa and Europe with the Nordjamb 75 mark and fleur-de-lis. Signed GUEDRON. 290F.

Series history

Mali issued three airmail commemoratives at Bamako on 23 June 1975 for the 14th World Scout Jamboree, Nordjamb 75, in Norway. They were withdrawn from sale on 30 June 1976. Each stamp is square, 40.5 × 40.5 mm, inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU MALI, SCOUTISME MONDIAL and POSTE AERIENNE, and carries the Nordjamb 75 mountain mark and a Scout fleur-de-lis on a globe of Africa and Europe. The Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste, Paris, printed them in recess, comb perforated 13, in panes of ten (two by five, with gutter pairs).

The 100 franc, in a red frame, shows a Scout with a pack walking toward a blue globe; it is signed DURRENS. The 150 franc, also red-framed, shows a Scout in hat giving the three-finger salute, a younger Scout, and two Scouts running with fleur-de-lis flags beside a green globe; it is signed GUEDRON. The 290 franc, in a blue frame, shows three Scouts around a camp-fire before a red globe, likewise signed GUEDRON. Didier Guedron is credited as designer and engraver of the later two values.

Imperforate stamps and deluxe sheets with the imprint Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste — France are known; they are kept as related material. Sources price the imperforates with the set and do not give them separate numbers.
