Inscribed ÉIRE and 17. A dark-green silhouette of a Scout in a cap, facing left, giving the three-finger salute, with a white collar and yellow neckerchief. Two white A-frame tents with yellow doorways stand on a green field under a blue sky.
Series history
Ireland issued two commemoratives on 22 August 1977 for the European Scout and Guide Conference, the fiftieth anniversary of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland, and the other Scout and Guide organisations in the country. Robert Ballagh designed the pair in flat colour. The Revenue Stamping Branch printed it in photogravure, comb perforated 15 × 14½, in panes of 100. Each stamp is inscribed ÉIRE with the value in the top corners and a framed landscape below. The stamps were withdrawn from sale on 21 February 1978.
Printings were 4,000,000 of the 8 penny and 2,000,000 of the 17 penny.
The 8 penny shows a Guide in silhouette facing three yellow A-frame tents. The 17 penny shows a Scout in silhouette giving the three-finger salute beside two white tents.
