Series history
Iran issued a 5 rial commemorative at Tehran on 2 September 1978 for the 23rd World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The stamp is lettered IRAN, 5 R., 23rd W.A.G.G.G.S. WORLD CONFERENCE TEHRAN – SEPT. 1978, پست ایران and ۵ ریال. The purple band at the foot carries a Persian inscription and the year ۲۵۳۷.
Guides in pale uniforms stand before the Shahyad monument, some holding red flowers. A green WAGGGS trefoil sits on a globe at upper left.
Mahravan designed the stamp from material supplied by the Scout Association of Iran. The Iranian Printing Press lithographed it in panes of 50, line perforated 10½, on paper watermarked with a Persian inscription and the coat of arms in a circle. One million copies were printed. Validity ended on 1 April 1979.
