Series history
Romania issued a four-value commemorative set on 18 June 1979 for the International Year of the Child, lettered ANUL INTERNATIONAL AL COPILULUI and POȘTA ROMÂNĂ, dated 1979, with the Year of the Child emblem in the right panel. Sava Stoianov designed the set; Fabrica de Timbre in Bucharest printed it by photogravure, comb perforated 13½, 42 × 27 mm, without watermark.
The 2 lei (500,000 printed) shows four Pioneers in orange shirts and blue berets gathered around a white hare on the grass. The 4.60 lei (250,000) shows a Pioneer drummer, a bugler and a flag-bearer in white shirts and red neckerchiefs. The 40 bani and 1 leu of the same set show children with flowers and two children at a kindergarten table; those designs are not Pioneer subjects.
