Notes
Pictorial definitive of an American sparrow hawk (Falco sparverius) perched on a leafless branch, overprinted in black 50th Anniversary / Scouting 1980. Royal cipher E II R; 10 CENTS; inscribed H.M. COMMISSIONER IN ANGUILLA.
Series history
Anguilla overprinted two values of its pictorial definitive series in April 1980 for the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting on the island. A three-line black overprint reads 50th Anniversary / Scouting 1980. The issue day is given as either 11 or 16 April.
The 10 cents shows an American sparrow hawk (Falco sparverius) on a branch; the $2.50 shows manchineel fruit (Hippomane mancinella). Both are inscribed H.M. COMMISSIONER IN ANGUILLA and carry the royal cipher E II R. John Lister Ltd. designed the underlying stamps; House of Questa printed them by offset lithography, in panes of forty (two panes of twenty with a gutter). The perforation gauge is given as 13½ or 14.
