Series history

Romania issued a 1 leu commemorative on 18 September 1980 for the first Romanian-Chinese philatelic exhibition, held in Bucharest. The stamp is lettered PRIMA EXPOZIȚIE FILATELICĂ ROMÂNO-CHINEZĂ and POȘTA ROMÂNĂ. Rodica Coteanu designed it — the plate is signed COTEANU RODICA — and Fabrica de Timbre in Bucharest printed it by photogravure, comb perforated 13½, 34 × 49 mm, without watermark, in a run of 300,000.

The design shows two boys in white shirts and red Pioneer neckerchiefs standing before an exhibition frame of stamps, looking together at an open album. They belong to the Pioneer organisations of Romania and China, not to Scouting.
