Series history
Nicaragua issued the largest of the 1957 centenary programmes at Managua on 9 April: five postage values, ten airmail values and two souvenir sheets, seventeen items in all for the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting and the centenary of Baden-Powell's birth. Domfil catalogues the stamps as 957.6/20 and the sheets as 957.21 and 957.22.
The postage series runs 10, 15, 20, 25 and 50 centavos, showing a Boy Scout, a Cub, a second Boy Scout, Baden-Powell himself and Joseph A. Harrison. The airmail series adds a handshake over a globe at 3 centavos, the Scout emblem at 4, a Cub at 5, crossed flags at 6, emblem and knot at 8, Harrison again at 30, President Somoza at 40, an Explorer Scout at 75, a Boy Scout at 85 and Baden-Powell at 1 córdoba. The Austrian State Printing Works produced everything in photogravure. SOSOW gives 14 × 13½ for the 3 and 4 centavos and 13½ × 14 for the rest; Colnect also puts the 40 centavos in the first group.
Every stamp was printed in 100,000 copies. The two souvenir sheets, both imperforate, are the scarce items: 50,000 of the sheet holding the five postage values and 25,000 of the airmail sheet, each captioned Hoja Souvenir — Conmemoración del Primer Centenario del Nacimiento del Fundador del Escultismo Mundial.
