Series history

The German Democratic Republic issued a three-value semi-postal set on 25 May 1961 for the IV. Pioniertreffen (4th Pioneer Meeting) in Erfurt. Domfil catalogues it as 961.21/23 under «4 Reencuentro de los jovenes pioneros en Erfurt», motifs playing, dancing and aeroplane modelling, cross-referenced to Yvert 543/545, Michel 827/829 and Scott B76/B78.

Each stamp is signed Friebel and carries the Junge Pioniere torch emblem with the letters JP, headed IV. PIONIERTREFFEN IN ERFURT 1961. The 10 + 5 pf shows Pioneers at volleyball on a green ground; the 20 + 10 pf two dancing pairs in folk costume on magenta; the 25 + 10 pf four Pioneers building a yellow model glider on blue.

Colnect names Ingeborg Friebel as designer and the Deutsche Wertpapierdruckerei (VEB) as printer, offset lithography, size about 43 × 26 mm, comb perforation 13 × 12½, watermark DDR and quatrefoil multiple, and validity until 31 December 1962. Colnect also records watermark-orientation variants (X/Y) that are not split here.
