Series history
The Republic of Maldives issued eight commemorative stamps and a souvenir sheet at Malé on 1 August 1973, inscribed FIRST WORLD CONFERENCE OF BOY SCOUTS IN AFRICA. M. Shamir designed the set; Format International Security Printers printed it by offset lithography, comb perforated 15, about 43 × 25 mm, in panes of 50. Each stamp is lettered REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES vertically at the left, with the World Scout emblem.
The 1 l and 3 r show two Scouts bandaging a lamb. The 2 l and 1 r show Scouts giving first aid on a beach, one with a life jacket and kit, another with a boat. The 3 l shows Scouts examining maize; that design is repeated as the 5 r stamp in the souvenir sheet (about 101 × 79 mm), with two hiking Scouts in the margins. The 4 l and 2 r show Scouts building and painting a wooden frame. The 5 l shows Scouts playing leapfrog at a campsite.
