Series history
Saint Vincent issued four commemoratives at Kingstown on 1 September 1977 for the golden jubilee of Girl Guides. Each stamp is portrait and inscribed GIRL GUIDES GOLDEN JUBILEE and St. Vincent. PAD Studios designed the 5 cent and the 2 dollar; P. B. Powell designed the 15 cent and the 20 cent. John Waddington printed the set by offset lithography, comb perforated 13¾, in panes of 50 as two panes of 25 with a gutter, on paper watermarked with a multiple Crown and Block CA, diagonal, upright. Specimen overprints exist.
Printings were 120,000 of the 5 cent, 100,000 of the 15 cent, 82,500 of the 20 cent and 44,000 of the 2 dollar.
The 5 cent shows a Guide in a light-blue uniform before a large orange trefoil. The 15 cent shows an early United Kingdom Guide in profile with a Ranger, a Brownie and a later Guide. The 20 cent pairs an early United Kingdom uniform with the 1977 St. Vincent uniform. The 2 dollar is a portrait of Lady Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide, in a campaign hat; she died in June 1977.
