Notes
Rhombus. Lettered GIRL GUIDES, DIAMOND JUBILEE, BARBADOS, 1918–1978 and 50 c. Upright diamond. Silver trefoil lettered 60, with a small star, on a green and blue sunburst. Offset lithography, line 14.
Series history
Barbados issued four commemoratives on 1 August 1978 for the diamond jubilee of the Girl Guides there, 1918–1978. Each stamp is a rhombus, lettered GIRL GUIDES, DIAMOND JUBILEE, BARBADOS and 1918–1978 along the four sides. Harrison & Sons designed and lithographed the set, line perforated 14, in panes of 50 as two blocks of 25 with a gutter. The paper is watermarked Crown over Block CA in diagonal rows.
The 12 cents, a landscape diamond, shows a camp: a Guide flag on a pole, a cooking fire, green tents and a building under a yellow sun.
The 28 cents, a landscape diamond, shows Guides at service — one pushing a wheelchair, others with children.
The 50 cents, an upright diamond, shows a silver trefoil with 60 and a small star on a green and blue sunburst.
The 1 dollar, an upright diamond, shows the Barbados Girl Guides trefoil in blue and gold — two G letters, a trident and a star — over a gold banner lettered BARBADOS.
