Series history

Norfolk Island issued four self-adhesive commemoratives on 22 February 1978 for fifty years of Guiding there, 1928–1978. Adele Davidson designed the set. Walsall Security Printers lithographed it. Each stamp is die-cut in the outline of the island on a square backing, 58 × 55 mm, rouletted 20 between the squares, in panes of 20. The peelable backing carries a green multiple-pine pattern and a tourist inscription.

Every stamp is lettered NORFOLK ISLAND and 50 YEARS OF GUIDING 1928–1978.

The 18 cents, on a pale blue island, shows the World Flag of the Girl Guides — a blue flag with a gold trefoil, lettered WORLD FLAG — and a globe marking Norfolk Island in the Pacific.

The 25 cents, on a yellow island, shows the Norfolk Island scarf badge — pines and a boat in a circle, lettered SCARF BADGE — beside a Guide trefoil.

The 35 cents, on a green island, shows Queen Elizabeth II in profile facing right, lettered Patron QUEEN ELIZABETH II, beside a Guide trefoil.

The 45 cents, on a pale green island, shows the FAO Ceres medal inscribed CERES and FAO ROME, lettered LADY BADEN-POWELL, beside a Guide trefoil.
