Series history
Manama issued photogravure stamp-on-stamp designs on 28 July 1971 for the 13th World Scout Jamboree. Eight values reproduce earlier stamps — Mahra State’s 1967 Idaho jamboree (10 dirhams), Qatar Scouts of 1965 (15 dirhams), Nigeria’s 1965 Scout jubilee (20 dirhams), Paraguay’s 1962 Baden-Powell airmail (25 dirhams), the Canal Zone’s 1960 Boy Scouts of America jubilee (50 dirhams), Brazil’s 1957 Baden-Powell centenary (75 dirhams), a Kathiri State of Seiyun 150 fils (1 riyal airmail), and Austria’s 1962 Scout handshake (2 riyals airmail) — each with a black 13th WORLD JAMBOREE overprint on the reproduced design, a fleur-de-lis, and JAPAN 日本. The same designs exist line perforated 13½, imperforate, and as deluxe souvenir sheets with simulated perforations whose margins are inscribed 3 riyals. A 10 riyal airmail souvenir sheet shows Neil Armstrong as an Eagle Scout and Dwight D. Eisenhower as honorary president of the Boy Scouts of America. Postal standing is unsettled.
